When a partial rewire makes sense
If a previous owner rewired the ground floor but not the upstairs, if one circuit has been damaged, or if you are only altering one part of the property, replacing everything is money spent for no benefit.
We test what is already there first. If the existing wiring is in good condition and properly protected, we will say so — and quote only for the section that genuinely needs work.
Kitchen rewiring
Kitchens place the heaviest demand on a domestic installation and are the most common partial rewire we carry out. Appliance circuits, a dedicated cooker supply, accessible isolation switches and worktop sockets in usable positions all need planning before the units go in.
We work to the kitchen fitter's plan and first fix before plastering, then return to second fix once the units and worktops are in place.
Extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions
New rooms need new circuits, and they need to be integrated properly with the existing board rather than spurred off whatever was nearest.
We check the capacity of the existing consumer unit first. Sometimes there is room; sometimes the board needs upgrading as part of the work, which we will tell you at quotation stage rather than halfway through.

Damaged and additional circuits
Cables get nailed through by flooring, damaged by leaks, or degraded by heat. Where a single circuit has failed, replacing that circuit is usually straightforward and far less disruptive than a whole-house job.
The same applies to additions: a garden supply, an extra ring in a converted loft, or a dedicated circuit for a home office.
Doing one floor or one section at a time
Some homeowners spread a rewire over a couple of years, taking one floor at a time as budget and decorating allow. That works perfectly well provided it is planned as a whole from the start.
We will design the full scheme, then carry it out in agreed phases so the sections join up neatly and nothing has to be redone later.

- Can part of a house be rewired?
- Yes. Individual floors, rooms or circuits can be rewired provided the remaining installation is tested and found to be safe and compatible. We test before quoting so we can advise honestly.
- Is a partial rewire cheaper than a full rewire?
- Usually, because there is less cable, less chasing and less making good. The saving depends on access and on whether the consumer unit also needs replacing.
- Do I get a certificate for partial work?
- Yes. New and altered circuits are tested and you receive certification covering the work carried out, with notification under Part P where it applies.
- Can you rewire just the kitchen before a new kitchen goes in?
- That is the ideal time to do it. We first fix before plastering and units, then return to second fix once everything is in position.
