Only the SHS-P version of the JAECOO 7 can be charged from the mains. The self-charging hybrid and petrol versions have no external charging socket and gain nothing from a charge point.

Why the answer is different on a plug-in hybrid
On a full electric car, charging is a nightly necessity and the size of the battery dominates the conversation. On a plug-in hybrid the battery is much smaller, so a 7kW home charger is never the limiting factor — an overnight session will be comfortably enough with hours to spare.
That takes speed out of the decision entirely. What is left is how you want the charging to be controlled, and what you are paying per unit of electricity.
Is BG SyncEV suitable for a JAECOO 7 SHS-P?
Yes. It is a standard 7kW Type 2 unit, which is exactly what the car wants, and for many straightforward home installations it is the charger our electrician tends to recommend first.
On a plug-in hybrid where the brief is simply 'full by morning', a dependable unit on a properly installed circuit is most of what you need. There is no advantage in paying for capability the car cannot use.

Is Ohme suitable?
Also yes, and it is the one to look at if smart tariff integration matters to you. Ohme's scheduling is built around charging in the cheapest windows your tariff offers.
On a PHEV the absolute saving is smaller than on a full EV, simply because you are moving less energy — but if you plug in most nights and you are on an EV tariff, it still adds up. Any figure depends on your supplier, tariff and mileage, so we will not invent one.

Do you need a 22kW charger?
No. A car only accepts as much AC power as its onboard charger allows, and fitting a unit rated higher does not change that. On top of which, 22kW charging needs a three-phase supply that almost no UK house has.
On a plug-in hybrid specifically, the point is doubly moot — the battery is small enough that a 7kW unit fills it well within an overnight window.
Can it be fitted before you collect the car?
Normally yes. The installation is about your property rather than the vehicle, so as long as we know the car is an SHS-P and can establish what the house needs, it can be done in advance.
