How Long Does an EV Charger Installation Take?

Most straightforward home installations are completed within a working day. Here is what determines whether yours is quick or more involved.

A typical straightforward installation

Where the consumer unit is reasonably close to the parking space, the board has capacity and the cable route is clear, the work usually takes a few hours from arrival to handover. That includes running the circuit, mounting and connecting the charger, testing, certification and showing you how it works.

Your electricity supply is only interrupted for a short period — typically while the new circuit is connected at the board.

What makes a job take longer

  • Long cable runs, particularly around or through the property
  • Ducting or ground works to reach a detached garage
  • Consumer unit replacement or additional protective equipment
  • Thick masonry, awkward access or working at height
  • Load management equipment fitted at the meter position
  • Remedial work found during testing

None of these are unusual. They simply need to be identified before the day rather than discovered on it — which is the main reason a proper assessment matters.

What we need from you on the day

  • Access to the consumer unit and meter position
  • Clear access to the wall where the charger will be mounted
  • The car on the drive if possible, so we can confirm cable reach
  • Someone at home to agree the final position and take the handover

Realistic, not optimistic

We would rather tell you a job needs a full day than promise two hours and leave you without power for longer than expected.

Frequently asked questions

Will my power be off all day?

No. In a typical installation the supply is only interrupted briefly while the new circuit is connected.

Can you install at weekends?

Ask when you call — we will tell you honestly what we can accommodate.

How soon can you start after I accept a quote?

It depends on our diary and the charger's availability. Local jobs are usually easiest to schedule quickly.
