Always check the current rules

Grant schemes, funding levels and eligibility criteria can change, and closed schemes are sometimes replaced by new ones. Check current government guidance at GOV.UK before making any assumptions or purchases.

We will not quote you a grant figure as though it is guaranteed. What we will do is tell you what the installation involves so that, if you are eligible for support, you can apply with accurate information.

How home charge point support has generally worked

Support for domestic charge points in the UK has historically been targeted rather than universal. Over recent years the focus has moved away from homeowners with driveways and toward groups who found it harder to charge at home, such as flat residents and renters, and toward landlords installing chargers for tenants.

  • Eligibility is usually tied to the type of property and your tenure
  • The installation normally has to be carried out by an authorised installer
  • The charge point itself often has to be an approved model
  • Applications are usually made in connection with the installation, not afterwards

What to check before you commit

  • Does the current scheme apply to your property type and tenure?
  • Does the charger model you want qualify?
  • Does the installer need a specific authorisation for the scheme?
  • What documentation and evidence do you need to provide?
  • Are there deadlines or funding limits in place?

It is also worth separating grant support from tariff savings. For many households the ongoing saving from charging on a cheap overnight rate outweighs any one-off contribution.
